According to information gathered, the male elephant, named Lilik, died as a result of fighting with a herd of wild elephants. This is based on reports from 3 elephant keepers (Mahout).

"The death of the tame elephant Lilik is the second time after previously the tame elephant Bunta also died at the East Aceh Serbajadi CRU which was allegedly poisoned by residents," said Lubis.


The tame elephant Bunta died as a result of being poisoned and having his ivory taken in June 2018. the deaths of Bunta and Lilik automatically make the remaining elephants in the Serbajadi CRU currently only two individuals.


"Currently there are only female tame elephants left at CRU Serbajadi, Lia and Nonik," he said.
